Biosolids
Transformed
Wastewater treatment has been held back by the idea that biosolids are a burden that can only at best be ‘managed.’ This mentality has led to a system driven by high costs to haul biosolids only to emit methane and contaminate soils. The Bioforcetech system eliminates tipping fees, destroys contaminants, and unlocks a broad range of applications for a newly transformed material. This isn’t biosolids management, it’s value production.

The Biosolids Burden
In their raw state, biosolids are trapped between two poor management outcomes: emissions and contamination. The beneficial organic fraction of the material makes it great for soils and crops, but the contaminants concentrated within the material proliferate when biosolids are applied to land. Alternatively, the contaminants in biosolids can be contained by landfilling them, but the organic fraction breaks down into significant methane emissions from landfill that exacerbate atmospheric carbon. Each option only solves half the equation and does more harm than good.
Our system turns this into an opportunity by destroying contaminants and yielding a clean OurCarbon® output ready for use in industry. Our process, deployed directly on site at wastewater plants, is more than just sustainable, it’s transformative.

BioDrying + Pyrolysis
No more waste, only sustainable products
90% volume reduction, 0% waste remaining
The Bioforcetech process is a groundbreaking approach to biosolids management, combining efficiency and sustainability in two key steps:
1. BioDryer
The process begins with dewatered biosolids, typically containing 80% moisture. These biosolids are automatically fed into the BioDryer, a cutting-edge machine that utilizes two sources of heat:
- Biological Heat: Generated by bacteria breaking down organic matter.
- Thermal Energy: Recycled heat from the downstream pyrolysis process.
This innovative combination efficiently dries the biosolids to just 20% moisture content.
2. Sigma Pyrolysis Unit
Once dried, the biosolids are transferred to the Sigma Pyrolysis Unit, where they are transformed into OurCarbon®, an engineered biochar. This step achieves an impressive 90% volume reduction, leaving behind a sustainable, high-value material with zero waste remaining.
This process ensures a sustainable solution to biosolids management, significantly reducing environmental impact while creating valuable by products.

With our innovative process, waste is no longer a burden—it becomes OurCarbon®, a sustainable, marketable product. Say goodbye to landfill tipping fees and the regulatory challenges of land application. Embrace a future where your facility eliminates waste disposal entirely, aligning with environmental goals while creating a circular economy solution.

The Bioforcetech system, in collaboration with the EPA, has demonstrated its ability to eliminate PFAS from biosolids. OurCarbon® is verified to be free from any detectable PFAS, marking a significant achievement for human health and the well-being of our planet. This breakthrough ensures a safer, cleaner future, addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.

In addition to preventing tons of carbon dioxide from being emitted by landfills, the Bioforcetech process permanently sequesters biogenic carbon into OurCarbon®. This sequestered carbon is highly trackable, providing real and measurable benefits for carbon accounting. The system not only supports sustainability but also creates a tangible impact in the fight against climate change.

As regulations on the disposal of biosolids become more stringent and transportation and tipping fees continue to rise, adopting Bioforcetech technology on-site ensures that the costs of biosolids transformation remain fixed for decades. This stability provides significant financial benefits for taxpayers, protecting them from unpredictable and escalating expenses while ensuring sustainable and compliant waste management.
