Sigma One

SigmaOne
Advanced Hybrid Pyrolysis
+/- 1ºC Temperature control
The SigmaOne pyrolysis unit is a cutting-edge Hybrid Pyrolysis System, uniquely patented by Bioforcetech.
This innovative technology combines recovered energy with electrical heating to achieve highly precise carbonization, setting a new standard in pyrolysis efficiency. Engineered for continuous operation and PFAS removal/destruction, the unit seamlessly converts biomass into high-quality PFAS-free biochar while maintaining strict control over temperature and residence time. Compact and modular, the BFT SigmaOne pyrolysis unit is approximately the size of a shipping container, making it easy to transport and install. Sigma's fully automated system, enhanced by advanced sensors, ensures uniform carbonization conditions throughout the process, delivering consistent results every time.
Self-Adjusting and Reliable
The Sigma One pyrolysis unit is designed to simplify operations, perform continuously with precision, and remove/destroy PFAS.
Powered by Bioforcetech’s advanced automation technology and built with unique design elements that minimize downtime and maintenance, this state of the art system delivers complete control and reliability.
Bioforcetech’s hybrid pyrolysis design recirculates heat indirectly from the syngas oxidizer through simple yet crucial heat exchange, bringing clean hot air across the reactor shell to maintain pyrolytic conditions. At the same time, electrical resistors fine tune final temperatures to deliver exact carbonization parameters and a clean consistent output of OurCarbon® biochar. Once up and running, this system is completely autogenous, producing carbon negative material with zero external energy required.

Frequently
asked questions
Does Sigma remove/destroy PFAS?
Yes, to the furthest extent provable today. Bioforcetech biosolids pyrolysis has been directly tested under the most extensive PFAS testing regimens to date. All third-party evaluations show complete removal of all testable PFAS. Most recently, Brown and Caldwell in 2025 confirmed that Bioforcetech’s SigmaOne Pyrolysis system achieves 99.98% PFAS removal across all output streams, including biochar, discharge water, and exhaust gases.
Does Sigma use external heat sources?
Yes, but only during the 4 hours heat-up time. After the startup period, the heat energy required for pyrolysis is obtained from the combustion of the self generated syngas.
What type of feedstock can I process with Sigma?
Sigma is designed to process various types of biomass with a maximum particle size of 30 mm. Depending on the biomass type, the required moisture content for processing ranges from 5% to a maximum of 35%. A list of processable materials includes: biosolids, sewage sludge (digested or undigested), wood chips, agricultural waste such as nut shells, hemp pellets, manure, and more.
Can Sigma produce syngas and bio-oil?
How much biochar can Sigma produce per hour?
The output may vary depending on the feedstock's carbon content, moisture content, and temperature. To provide an estimate, the following table shows possible production ranges based on an input of 100 kg/h:
- Undigested biosolids: 25 – 45 kg/h
- Digested biosolids: 35 – 50 kg/h
- Wood chips: 20 – 40 kg/h
- Nut shells: 20 – 40 kg/h
