USDA and Bioforcetech Join to Create Carbon Database
The database aims to gain new insight into the differences between multiple biochars produced under varying conditions.
Bioforcetech Corporation is teaming up with the USDA Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to build out an extensive database of carbons produced through our pilot system. The project is led by Senior Researcher James McManus, PhD, MBA and will be carried out by a team of ARS researchers alongside BFT Science Director George Chan and our other team members.
This partnership will leverage our bench scale Sigma hybrid pyrolysis unit, a pyrolysis unit designed to allow unique controls of temperature and residence time at a small scale and feedrate yet behave as closely as possible to the fully scaled Sigma One unit. Findings from the production of biochars from varying feedstocks at numerous temperatures and residence times will further the understanding of the characteristics achievable at scale of carbon materials produced through such a process.
"The unique ability for our bench scale pyrolysis unit to control processing parameters and yield scalable results makes it a perfect fit for this type of development work. Alongside the expertise and extensive research capabilities of ARS, the possibilities for knowledge gained from this endeavor are very exciting!" - Bioforcetech Director of Development, Garrett Benisch
The more this database grows, the more it can be leveraged to meet specs in industrial applications that can build a domestic supply of fixed carbons like the powerful OurCarbon currently produced at scale from biosolids.
